Reducing Mental Stress According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), about 80% of Americans have experienced stress at some point in their lives. Stress can affect everyone and anyone falling under any age group. In plain psychology, stress is a feeling of emotional strain and pressure. A little stress is positive and can help develop competitiveness. However, research says that too much stress can lead to heart attack and ultimately death. Symptoms Some of the symptoms of mental stress can be: ·          Compulsive behavior: compulsive behaviors are actually a desperate attempt to counter one's mental obsessions. Such actions may further lead to addictions or substance abuse. ·          Anxiety: Often occurrences of sadness are normal. But when feelings turn overwhelming depression and anxiety follow. ·          Mood Swings: Too many emotional oscillations at one time sets the mental pendulum disturbed leading to higher anger levels and irritation. ·
