Reducing Mental Stress According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), about 80% of Americans have experienced stress at some point in their lives. Stress can affect everyone and anyone falling under any age group. In plain psychology, stress is a feeling of emotional strain and pressure. A little stress is positive and can help develop competitiveness. However, research says that too much stress can lead to heart attack and ultimately death.
